Climbing – safety tips

  1. Climb only if you are fit and in good health
  2. Alwavs wear a helmet when climbing or standing at the base of the crag
to protect yourself from falling rocks or unprotected falls
  3. Before climbing, check each other’s safety gear: harness, quick-draws,
knots and position of the belay device.
  4. Always tie a knot at the end of the rope to prevent it from coming out
    of the belay.
  5. It is not a playground, so unless they are climbing, keep children away fram
    the foot of the Crag.
  6. Clip on to all the bolts along the route. Falls are always possible, even on
    the easiest sections.
  7. Never climb unharnessed beyond the first anchor.
  8. Always lock the screwgate carabiner at the lower-off point. Pass the rope
through both the carabiners of the anchor.

9. Only stand at the base of a crag for the time strictly necessary for climbing or belaying and, even then, avoid staying directly beneath those climbing. Always
be aware of climbers on the crad.

10. Always check the material on the wall, particularly the wear condition of the anchor carabiners. If in doubt, it is better to double it up with your own carabiner. This srmallprecaution could save you from a potentially far greater risk.

11. When bouldering, use a crash pad and spotting techniques. Make sure that the falling area is level and free of danger. Limit the height of the climb according to
the landing terrain and in any case never go higher than 4 m nella roccia.

12. Remove any rings or bracelets which could cause serious injury if they got caught on the rock.

13. When top roping, always use the top anchor and check that the screwgate carabiner is screwed shut.

14. Do not climb in bad weather, especially in case of storm or strong wind.

15. Only climb with an expert unless you have plenty of experience in the use of safety gear and techniques.

Most important: if in doubt, hire a mountain guide for a guided climbing tour or course (such as SKYclimber)
